Joseph “Gary” White died unexpectedly on January 13, 2016 at Southlake Regional Health Centre at the age of 74. Gary is survived by his wife of 50 memorable and beautiful years Marianne (Guimond) White; his devoted son Neal White and daughter-in-law Jacqueline Sargeant of Ancaster, Ontario; loving daughter Anne Marie White and son-in-law Dave Allen of St. Thomas, Ontario. Gary, known as “Pa” will be especially remembered by his four grandsons; Braden White, Evan White, Trevor White and Matthew Sargeant. He is survived by his brothers, Edward and James (Herman) and sister Marina (White) Murphy and will be sadly missed by many nephews and nieces as well as cousins & friends near and far. Gary was predeceased by his parents; Ernest White and Lydwin (Dumas) White and his oldest brother Bert.

Gary was born on April 28th 1941 in the small town of Douglastown along the beautiful coast of Gaspe, Quebec. At the young age of 17, he ventured into the world alone. He boarded a train and headed to the big City of Toronto, Ontario to pursue employment. The day after Gary arrived in Toronto he was offered a position of employment at Acme Paper, working in the mill. He soon found his niche in the printing world as a collator operator.

Two years after arriving in the big city, he met the love of his life. This special girl was attending an all-girls school in East Toronto called Notre Dame High. Because Gary worked shifts, he had free time in the afternoons and would wait outside the high school to drive five or six girls to the hot spot diner called “New Era”. His eyes always focused on a very distinctive French girl named Marianne Guimond. They married on June 5th 1965 and as their marriage blossomed and grew, Gary followed his dreams of Dairy Farming and was able to fulfil his passion for carpentry. It was at this time that his love of denim overalls became his trademark for apparel. “Goodnight sweetheart, I love you more.” Marianne.

A Celebration of Life for Gary will take place on April 16th at 11am at St. Ann’s Parish, 11 Wilson Street, Ancaster, Ontario. A reception will follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate in Gary’s journey of life. Another mass celebrating his life will take place in his home town of Douglastown, Quebec in late July or August. Date to be confirmed.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada at: To donate to the Heart & Stroke Foundation please go to the Contribute Tab at the top right of the page.

The family would like to thank the caregivers at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Orillia, Ontario and Southlake Regional Health Centre in Newmarket, Ontario for their wonderful care and dedicated efforts.
