<div itemprop="description">It is with great sadness we announce her peaceful passing, after a courageous 14 month battle with lung cancer. She will be deeply missed by beloved husband Peter Ely, and her four children Chris (Julie), Joan (Lon), Carolyn (John), and David (Nancy). Through her marriage to Peter, Margaret was blessed with the love of an extended family and will also be missed by his children: Peter Jr. (Karen), Alison, Jane and John. Cherished grandmother to her 10 grandchildren: Andrew, Nicole and Matthew Thompson; Emily, William and Lucie Shaver; Chrissy and Jennifer Clark; and Abby and Charlotte Thompson. Survived by her mother Dorothy Collyer, brothers Richard (Rena) and Donald (Mary Ann) Collyer and sister Maureen Williams. Predeceased by her father and step-mother Arnulf and Grace Collyer. <br /> <br />Margaret was born in London, Ontario and attended Western University where she earned a degree in Secretarial Science. Her first job was with Co-Operators Insurance where she rose to the title of Assistant to the General Manager and Secretary to the Board of Directors in Toronto. She later settled in Dundas, Ontario and raised her four children and became active in the community. She was President of the Dundas Garden Club as well the lady&rsquo;s section Golf Captain and President at the Hamilton Golf &amp; Country Club. Margaret was active in her church raising money by running house tours in the Dundas community. She enjoyed golf as a member of Hamilton and Jupiter HillsGolf Club in Florida. She also enjoyed her membership at the Tamahaac Club in Ancaster where she hosted many special family occasions. <br /> <br />She married Peter in 2004 and started her life's next chapter in Oakville, Ontario. They were inseparable and enjoyed each other's company for almost 10 years. They summered in Muskoka, wintered in Florida, and traveled North America visiting their combined 8 children and 12 grand-children. <br /> <br />The family extends their thanks to Dr. Helen Pyle and caregivers Chelsea and Heather in Oakville, Dr. John Goffin, Cheryl and Susan at Juravinski Cancer Centre in Hamilton, and everyone at Ian Anderson House. <br /> <br />Visitation will be held at the DODWSORTH &amp; BROWN FUNERAL HOME &ndash; &ldquo;ANCASTER CHAPEL&rdquo;, 378 Wilson Street East, on Monday May 26, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. A Funeral Service will be held ST. JOHN&rsquo;S ANGLICAN CHURCH, 272 Wilson Street East, Ancaster on Tuesday May 27 at 11:00 a.m., with burial to follow in the churchyard. A reception will then be offered at the HAMILTON GOLF AND COUNTRY CLUB, 232 Golf Links Road, Ancaster. <br /> <br />In lieu of flowers, memorial donations to The Canadian Lung Association would be appreciated be the family. <br /></div>
