It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of a very kind and gentle man, Frederick George Snelling, on April 4th in his 91st year. Fred will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife of 34 years, Edna (nee Moffat). Predeceased by his beloved wife Margaret (nee Walker; 1970), mother of his children James (Sydney) of Hong Kong, Peter (Diane), Fred (Joanne) and Pam Bayne (Dave) – all of Hamilton. Survived by 8 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Lovingly remembered by Daniel Moffat, Debbie Lootsma (Andy), Dianne Miles (Scott) and Lynda Pyett (John) and their families. “Gramps” will be sadly missed by 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Brother of Archdeacon Robert Snelling (Marilyn; deceased), of Sauble Beach. Predeceased by brother Ross and sister-in-law Grace. Fred was a faithful member of St. Michael’s Anglican Church. He was a proud Veteran of WWII, serving with the Royal Canadian Air Force. He was a member of RCAF-447-Wing, Mount Hope, and was a life-long member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 163 and the Colour Party. Fred was chairman of the Poppy Campaign for many years. Fred enjoyed the simple things in life. He loved tending to his garden, listening to concerts in local parks, enjoying the warmth of the sunshine in Arizona, Florida, and Europe and capturing the moment with his “Canon”. Our family will never forget the kindness and care given to Fred by the wonderful staff at Caroline Place, the Bayshore P.S.W.s and most recently the Palliative Care team and staff at St. Joseph’s Hospital, 6th Floor North. The support of the DVA, particularly Ken Langelaan (OT), is most appreciated. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Fred’s Life will take place on Saturday May 2, 2015, at the DODSWORTH & BROWN FUNERAL HOME – ANCASTER CHAPEL, 378 Wilson Street East, at 11:30 a.m., preceded by visitation beginning at 10 a.m. A private family interment will take place at White Chapel Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donations in Fred’s memory may be made to the Cancer Assistance Program (C.A.P.), the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund Branch 163, or a charity of your choice.
“I wake up every morning giving thanks for yet another sunrise, and I give thanks every night for seeing another sunset”
